Abstract

Dose loads on the population from emissions and discharges from the planned Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) with VVER-1200 reactor were calculated. The calculations showed that the dose loads on the population during the entire operation of the NPP with VVER-1200 reactor are significantly lower than the dose limit and the minimum dose quota for the NPP. Estimates were prepared that are of interest in developing regulations for the radioecological monitoring (REM) for the territory adjacent to the planned NPP. It was established that the main dose-forming radionuclides at the plant are 14C and inert radioactive gases (IRGs), and to a lesser extent 3H. Partial dose loads on the population from radionuclides contained in the environmental components and agricultural products were calculated. The most significant contributor to the population's radiation dose is 14C in plant products, and to a lesser extent in meat and milk. An impotant result of these calculations is the confirmation of the leading role of the agricultural sector in determing the population's radiation dose during NPP operation. To assess the capabilities of the radioecological monitoring of the adjacent territory, the concentration of plant radionuclides in soil and agricultural products were calculated. It was found that the specific activities of  several plant radionuclides are significantly below the detection threshold. For the VVER-1200 reactor, the radionuclides with the highest concentration in agricultural products will be 3H. This circumstance can be taken into account when developing regulations for the radiologicaql monitoring of agroecosystems in the zone of influence of the planned Kazakhstan NPP.
