Abstract

The study of the long-term dynamics of soil properties that determine productivity is one of the most pressing issues in soil science. This problem is particularly acute in arid regions, where secondary salinization processes are widespread due to irrigation, rising groundwater levels, and the formation of irrigation-hydromorphic or semi-hydromorphic soils. In the Kyzylorda region, a significant portion of irrigated land is located in closed depressions, creating favorable conditions for re-salinization. Inadequate irrigation management leads to changes in soil fertility, reduction of productive land areas, and the progression of secondary salinization. The deterioration of the reclamation status of arable lands results in re-salinization and the elevation of saline groundwater tables. In some instances, secondary salinization is observed due to the influx of drainage water from rice fields into irrigation canals. Irrational use of water and land resources, coupled with aridization and desertification, intensifies salinization processes in soils and groundwater. Grey-brown soils and various types of solonchaks are widely distributed on plateaus, in depressions, and along coastal areas. Due to the continuous decline of the Aral Sea level, the area of saline lands is steadily increasing. It is noteworthy that mapping of saline soils in rice-growing regions has not been previously conducted. This necessitates a comprehensive inventory of current saline land areas and their distribution dynamics. The article presents evaluation data for saline soils in the Kyzylorda region based on several indicators, including the type of salinization and the depth of the salt horizon. Chemical analysis of sulfate anions, calcium cations, and magnesium ions was performed, alongside the determination of the percentage of sodium and potassium ions.
