Aim of the Journal

The journal publishes original scientific research and review articles presenting the results of fundamental and applied studies in the field of environmental protection, rational use of natural resources, assessment of air, soil, and water quality, issues of sustainable development, and analysis of global environmental challenges.

Objectives of the Journal

  • Publication of the results of fundamental and applied research in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.
  • Dissemination of scientific papers devoted to the assessment and improvement of air, soil, and water quality.
  • Establishment of a scientific platform for discussion and analysis of local and global environmental problems.
  • Presentation of current scientific knowledge and achievements in ecology and sustainable development to the scientific community.
  • Support for scientific capacity building through the publication of research conducted by early-career researchers, doctoral students, and students.

Thematic Areas of the Journal:

  1. Environmental protection – conservation of natural ecosystems, pollution prevention, and pollution reduction measures.
  2. Rational use of natural resources – effective management of water, land, forest, and biological resources.
  3. Environmental monitoring and assessment – assessment of air, soil, and water quality and environmental safety.
  4. Local and global environmental issues – climate change, biodiversity loss, and the impacts of urbanisation.
  5. Sustainable development – green economy, alternative energy sources, socio-environmental issues, and environmental innovations.
  6. Regional ecology – investigation of the environmental characteristics of individual countries and regions.

Publication Languages: Kazakh, Russian, and English.

Publication Frequency: Four issues per year.

Open Access Policy. The journal follows the principle that free and open access to research findings contributes to the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Archiving. Electronic versions of the journal are provided to JSC "NCSTE" for inclusion in its electronic library and the development of its collection. The journal also archives its materials on eLIBRARY.RU. The editorial board of the Journal of Ecology and Sustainability does not prevent authors from depositing their published works in third-party repositories.

Publication Conditions. All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Ecology and Sustainability must comply with the journal's technical and other submission requirements and undergo anonymous peer review. The editorial board makes the final publication decision based on the reviewers' reports. An author or co-author may not publish more than one article in the same issue of the journal. The author(s) bear full responsibility for the content of their articles.

Licensing. The Journal of Ecology and Sustainability provides immediate, free and open access to its content under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence. Authors retain their copyright and may copy and distribute their work in accordance with the licence terms, provided that appropriate credit is given and the journal is cited.

Authorship and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Plagiarism screening also includes the assessment of material paraphrased from different sources using artificial intelligence. The editorial office supports the position of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) on the following principles:

  1. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors.
  2. If authors use AI tools when preparing a manuscript, they must explain how these tools were used and identify the specific tools in the "Materials and Methods" section. Authors remain fully responsible for the entire content of their manuscript, including any material generated with the assistance of AI, and for any associated breaches of publication ethics.

Article Retraction Process. The journal reserves the right to retract published articles in cases involving unreliable data, plagiarism, serious errors, or violations of scientific and publication ethics.

Editorial Policy Regarding Intermediaries and Scientific Article Brokers. The editorial office of the Journal of Ecology and Sustainability does not engage with or cooperate with intermediaries, agencies, brokerage services, or other commercial organisations involved in writing, selling, promoting, or illegally distributing scientific articles. Such activities constitute serious violations of academic integrity and pose a threat to scientific reputation. All manuscripts must be prepared and submitted directly by their authors. Any identified involvement of intermediaries may result in manuscript rejection, refusal of publication, or subsequent retraction of a published article.
